Two years ago, my company purchased a used Varian 3800 with Saturn 2000 mass spec from Gentech. The instrument has proven itself to be an asset, and our previously acclaimed Agilent 6890 with 5975 MSD sees little use. We primarily do explosive analysis, and the Saturn system is significantly (2-3 orders of magnitude) more sensitive than the Agilent.

Anyway, it is nearly time for me to purchase a new electron multiplier for the Varian. Is there a significant advantage to purchasing one from Varian? Or should I consider a cheaper alternative? We don't want to sacrifice sensitivity. I was wondering what people here recommend? I see there are severa other manufacturers of electron multipliers but I don't know which one is the best. I'm hoping someone here has experience in this area.

Thanks!!
