Cleaning a quaternary pump an agilent 1100 series

Hello,

I needed to clean out my quat pump on my Agilent 110 series. The recommendation is to use 65% Nitric acid but I do not have any Nitric Acid. Does anyone have a recommendation to substitute with another acid that may work just as well? Thanks for any ideas!

No other should be used as Nitric acid passifies (makes it less reactive)stainless steel surfaces.

If it is just a method of cleaning you could try hot laboratory detergent and flush it with plenty of water afterwards.

First, why do you think you need to clean your pump? What cleaning you do will depend on what problems you are having and which part you are trying to clean.

Citric Acid can also be used in place of nitric acid, and appears to be increasingly preferred in some industries, as it is now approved in ASTM A967 for passivation.

This was discussed, and references provided, in an earlier thread entitled "Stainless Steel Tubing" in September.

Please keep having fun,
