I've recently done some work analyzing impurities in our facilities argon lines, which are from an on-site liquid argon tank farm. I did the work with an old Shimadzu GC-8A with CR601 Chromatopack Analyzer, helium carrier, two 20 foot colums of Hayesep-D. With the attenuation at 1X, and the TCD set at about 100mA, and inlet and columns at room temp., I could repeatedly detect in the 10's of ppms of nitrogen contamination, what looked like hydrogen contamination - a strong negative peak shortly after opening the sampling loop, as well as some air leaks on graphite furnaces which produced CO and CO2 peaks. Obviously, everything is manual on the GC-8A, such as balancing the pressure on the columns, but managmement liked my results.
I was told to see what could permanently be attached to the argon lines that automatically ran a periodic check (perhaps a few times a day, every day, 365 days a year), and reported on a computer the resultant contaminants in the argon line. What do I need to suggest buying that once set up would run automatically and generate reports?????
Thanks,
Dave
