Young Lin GC's

I've been asked by my boss to investigate dissolved oxygen in viscous polymer resins. A quick scout around suggests that headspace GC with TCD detector would do the job.

Our PE Clarus 500 can be modified to do this although we either lose our FPD or have to constantly change between columns. For only a few grand more we could get a complete dual channel headspace GC from Young Lin with both FID and TCD.

Now I reaslise you get what you pay for but I also know that PE and the rest also charge a premium for thier badge on the front, so has anyone ever had any experience with their GC's?

Several things to toss your way, unfortunately not about Young Lin. First, if you have a slot for an FID on your PE you could look at an HID detector. Second, in your homeland you could talk to Cambridge Scientific for an inexpensive headspace GC. Across the channel you could talk to Perichrome for an headspace GC. All of these options are less expensive than a new PE or Agilent or Varian.

Disolved Oxygen by headspace What about air ingress ?
The Young Lin sampler is a copy of the CTC, Thermo type with a syringe sampling the vial, this cannot work for Oxygen determination. You may get the PE design flow system to work by purging the vial with carrier prior to the heating stage to expel Oxygen and air in the vial. How much Oxygen do you think there is present in the sample ? TCD is not very sensitive will you see a peak ? We supply Oxygen detectors for high purity Gas analysis , perhaps you could connect the headspace to our detector, monitor the Oxygen content as the sampler purges the vial then incubate the vial and re-sample ?
