i don't have a great experience about carbohydrates analysis but i find that amino polymer based columns give good performances (for example astec amino columns that i used for glucosamine analysis with ELSD detection).

What is the best detector for carbohydrate : refractometry or ELSD ?
Is the first one a little bit more specific ?

Hi synthaxerror,

RI and ELSD are both universal detection methods but elsd has some advantages respect to RI; for example it's more sensitive, baseline is more stable and his performance is not affected by variation of eluent composition (gradient analysis). Then RI is more sensible to tempearture variations. For this reason in theory elsd is better than RI, but if you can't use an elsd detector i think RI will get you good performances anyway.
