Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I just picked up an M200 micro gc for a song. Now I'm looking for another song in the form of software to control it and process data. Will free software like PeakSimple do the trick, or will I need to pay :D . Can anyone recommend an inexpensive alternative for this task?

Will a generic RS232 cable do the connection correctly, or is the pin-out different?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers.
They only SW I am aware of that control this system is EZChrom. There used to be a stoneage product called MTI EZChrom which really is an 1990 version of the same product. Later versions came from SSI, now Agilent.

Cheapest alternative at Agilent is EZChrom SI (aka EZStart) which is limited to run one instrument only.

Still you will have to sing a lot to get it.

I remember the MTI protocol was extermely simple so perhaps someone is able to decipher it and connect to something like Peaksimple.

Might be helpful to get in touch with Datalys (www.datalys.fr), a french manufacturer of data systems. Besides of being quite helpful, their software is quite good and not too expensive. And if you are university-related, you can apply for considerable discounts!
