Which HPLC

Dear all, we want to buy a HPLC system for our food lab. I'm so confused between Agilent 1260 quartenary pump (600bar) + DAD + Fluorescence detector, Shimadzu LC-20AXR (660bar) + PDA + Fluorescence detector and Thermo ULTIMATE 3000 (620bar) + PDA + Fluorescence detector. I want to use new tech bead based columns called core shell/porashell etc... Which system is more rebust , user friendly and problem-free. I want to buy a 600bar system because this kind columns increase the pressure. I'm waiting for your suggestions. Thank you...

Do you have other (older) LC systems in your lab? If so, have you been happy with the service and support from that vendor? If so, stay with the same brand.

Agilent 1260 HPLCs are quite good and reliable for routine work. We have seven of them (different models). The pump seals are very robust. Make sure whatever system you buy, you should have high data sampling frequency (160 to 80 Hz) and fast response times (~0.01 s etc) available in the software. This is important for core-shell columns. Secondly with poroshell columns you have to use narrow tubings ( 75 micron) to get the best result out of them. You have to ask from the manufacturer because such tubing does not come as default. 600 bars is good enough for 15 cm columns. Also check if you have good tech service in your area.

What Tom points out is very true, but if you want to change I recommend the 1260 with binary pump.

My suggestion binary pump too, not shimadzu - but Agilent)
It is little more expensive but robust against quaternary.
About core-shell, which applications?
