I currently developed a new HPLC method, but the tailing factor is 1.3.
I tried to optimiz the mobile phase , colum, temperature and flow rate, but the tailing factor cannot to be improced.
Is the tailing factor acceptable?
I want to contibute the article to journal. Will the editor criticize it?

thanks a lot!

I wouldn't worry about tailing until TF > 1.5. USFDA and ICH recommendations for system suitability set TF < 2. You're fine.

Tailing effects to integration precision, integration precision effects to peak area precision. Sharp symmetrical peaks gives consistent integrations. In my opinion, allmost any tailing (ok, up to 2 ;) is acceptable if the injection precision meets your criteria. However, you should show that the peak and the tail are pure and of the same component.
thanks

<2 seems to be totally acceptable in anything i have read.
and i agree with MK, check to make sure that the tailing is actually just tailing and not a shouldering.

^_^
If you're not part of the solution, You're part of the precipitate.
