One of the return springs on the piston linkage fatigued, failed, and the broken end of the spring got caught between one of the eccentric drive gears for the pistons and the main drive gear at the center. Being that the spring is steel and the gears are brass (or bronze), the gears lost the battle and are hopelessly destroyed. I've drained the mechanism of oil in preparation for disposal, cleaned the bits up somewhat, and am actually intrigued with the aesthetics of the thing. I'm thinking of cleaning the mechanism throroughly, painting up the housing in a dark color, and perhaps using it as a book-end with the mechanism exposed...What would you do?
