My mother suggested buying a reverse osmosis-based water filter because it claims to kill viruses, bacteria, and parasites. what do you think about it?

Doesn't kill them, but should filter them out.

I've had people send in RO water to get fluoride out of their municipal drinking water. A $2000 model got 95% of the fluoride out. I have never tried a $300 model.
