RI vs ELS detectors for detection of polysaccharides

I need to characterize dextrans and their non-UV active derivatives, and most of the literature I see uses refractive index detector. Is it possible to use evaporative light scattering? I always thought that it is more sensitive, stable and robust. What would you say?

ELSD pros:
- probably more sensitive
- less of an issue with temperature control
- compatible with gradients
ELSD cons:
- more complex (need for N2 source)
- harder to set up (more parameters to fuss with)
- mobile phase buffers must be volatile
- limited linear range

RI pros and cons pretty much the inverse.
