I'd like to know if any of you ever saw a Waters acquisition client running on something like VMware.

Possible, but not advisable is my educated guess.

Why do you not recommend it? I'd be interested in reading your thought about this.

Main reason is that if you have several instruments sharing a citrix client stack, for example, you lose the redundancy of multiple collection points for your data.
In other words, if that citrix stack fails, you lose data from several instruments. Also, it is more likely to have collection problems as a result of having to pass through multiple network portals, which takes longer and provides more opportunities for problems.

Yes WMware is supported for Empower3. But it can work ethernet controlled instruments only. WMware can not handle the IEEE communication
