Has anyone had any luck creating a report that mimics an instrument logbook out of empower? The information that gets hand entered into our logbooks is in empower: User, column ID, sample set, method, lot, date started. Is recorded in Empower. It would seem one could put this in a report. We would limit the data by placing a date sample set started range and order by this to be in chronological order. Filters could be used to set only one system to be reported.

Anyone else attempting/succeeding with this?

Thanks!

Hello. Yes, you could easily copy those fields into a simple All Peaks Table of a Summary By All report method and order by Sample Set Start Date Ascending. We do a similar report here but we use custom fields that we set up for Analyst (User), Column reference and Lot number- these fields are used in the sample set and can be added to an all peaks table by expanding on the "Sample" tree of the report and adding them. Similarly, you can add Sample Set Name, Sample Set Start Date from the "Sample Set" tree and then in the Order By section, Order by Sample Set Start Date- Ascending. It gets a bit messy if you are making a table comprised of just the single "User" fields etc- the alignment is very unsatisfactory and makes it difficult to Order by. Having the fields in a table is much more satisfactory.

But, there is an issue if you generate this report in the "Sample Sets" tab- you get an entry for every single injection ID, so if you have 10 sample sets, you wont get a 10 row report with all your information, you get however many rows that match how many injections comprised those 10 sample sets, so for example if each sample set had 90 injections, you get a 900 row table with repeating information spread out over multiple pages, which obviously isn't what you are looking for!

As a workaround for this, set up a View Filter in the Injections tab with all the same fields as your table, so Sample Set Start Data, Analyst etc and add "Injection ID" to this view filter. When in the View Filter wizard, right click the Injection ID field and pick "Group By" and then pick MAX Injection ID, and grouped by Sample Set ID. Then right click on Injection ID and pick Hide, so its not included in the View. Save filter and when applying the report, select the sample sets, View as Injections and apply the report to THIS view. Then you will get a report as you wanted with a single Sample Set Name, User for that sample set, column etc for each sample set. Its a bit of work at the start but worth it in the long term. We have used this report and view filter for years now and its working perfectly.
