Air Bubble formation within resin

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying the formation of air bubbles within silica resin in anion exchange chromatography. I can understand that bubbles may form during the packing of the column, but I want to know if it is possible for bubbles formed in the the mobile phase solvents to become 'trapped' inside the stationary phase? Basically, I want to know where how else air bubbles can form within the stationary phase besides from the packing of it.

If anybody could direct me to further sources of information regarding the above topic, I would greatly appreciate it.

I never recognized air bubble formation in the resin. Dissolved air can build bubble with lowering the pressure. But this has nothing to do with formation in the phase.
If the eluent is properly degasses you will not see air bubble formation at all.

Dissolved gasses can cause bubbles in the eluent that if flowing through the packing, but not actual voids within the packing. To prevent any bubbles that may form in a column always mount the column vertically and flow from bottom to top, that way any bubbles that form will quickly exit the column and not continue to gather and become larger over time.
