User Experience Comparison of Metrohm vs. Thermo/Dionex

We’re looking to replace much older Dionex IC systems and we’re interested in the experience of Metrohm and Thermo (Dionex) users. What has been your experience with the service and equipment from the two vendors? If you've used both, which do you prefer and why?

Also, we’re currently using a gradient for an amines cation analysis (using MSA and an eluent generator). We also use a gradient pump to combine to mobile phases for an azoles (TTA, BZT) analysis. If we go with Metrohm, they’ll create isocratic methods for us, but we’d like to know what our future options will be if we end up needing gradient after all. We’d like feedback from any Metrohm users who've run gradient methods using the Dosino or a second pump and how that worked out for them. Will we be limited by Metrohm technology options?

We also use the electrochemical/amperometric detector for glycol analysis. If anyone has experience with the electrochemical detectors in the new Metrohm or Thermo systems, please give us some feedback.

Any feedback would be a great help, especially from users instead of vendor representatives. Thanks!
First reply from a Vendor. Just an answer to the technology question.
In the Metrohm system you will NOT be restricted to our technology.

Hope you get a lot of interesting answers.

Dear G-C waterlab

Thank you for your post of yesterday.

Have you considered the use of a Cecil Instruments’ modular Ion Quest ion chromatography system. http://www.cecilinstruments.com/ionquest-1.html It will perform your required gradient analysis, and can incorporate the use of an electrochemical detector. Please download a brochure from the company website. I do not know of your location, but there are accredited Cecil Instruments’ distributors in virtually all parts of the globe.

If you have any further queries, please contact me directly, and provide your full contact details.

Kind regards,

Are you in the water treatment industry? Azoles and amines suggest to me that you work with chill loops, cooling towers and boiler systems.

We have some history with these analytes if you'd like to discuss methods and hardware further.
For your glycol analysis, are you currently using the old GP50, PAD detector with gold or platinum electrodes? Are you using the disposable electrodes or the more permanent ones which require periodic cleaning?
