Dear All,

Could you suggest a column for alcohol GC FID analyses?
We produce pure ethanol from corn(99,9%),I analyse it a Shimadzu GC 2010;FID.
Some costumer requires very special ethanol product (Apr.Ph:4!),and the manufacture of columns doesn't suggest it,because it's damage the column.
I use Restek RTX-1701 column,( Crossbond 14%;cyanopropylphenyl, 86% dimethyl polysiloxane) 30 meter;0,25 mmID;1 nm df.

If I inject ethanol which ph is very low,the separation will be very poor...Has someone's experience in this case?

Thank you,

Aniko
Have you contacted Restek and seen if the Stabilwax-DA column might work for this analysis?

The past is there to guide us into the future, not to dwell in.
We used 15 m x 0.25 mm HP Innowax crosslinked poly(ethylene oxide) fused silica capillary column with 0.5 micron film thickness (#19091N-211 or #19091N-231 respectively) or 15 m x 0.53 mm Nukol poly(ethylene oxide) fused silica capillary column with 0.5micron film thickness (Supelco #2-5326).
All previous advice is very good. I have excellent method development luck for various alcohols, glycols, and residual solvents using Restek Rtx-624 and Agilent DB-624UI. Have used 30-m x 0.32-mm x 1.8-µm and 30-m x 0.25-mm x 1.4-µm.
We've done pharmacopeia testing of alcohol using DB-624 30m x 0.32mm x 1.8um
Thanks the answers!
@Sallybeetle Could you give me the deatailsof your method?
The biggest problem in my method the acetaldehyde content, beacuse the calibration is very difficult.
Thank you:
Aniko
