Can anyone help me on how to inject a non-retained compound in a GC assignment. I also want to know which compounds are most appropriate . Thank you.

Non-retained will depend on what column you are using as some analytes are highly retained on one type of column and relatively unretained on another.

Also what detector are you using. What responds well to an FID may not respond to an ECD.

On a column made for organic molecules you could inject air, argon or nitrogen and it would be non-retained and respond well to an ECD detector if you are using hydrogen or helium carrier gas. But a column made for analyzing fixed gasses it would retain the above analytes.
