Assay for aniline in compound.HCl

I'm trying to develop and assay, aniline in one of our compounds, but noticed I got 0 recovery. I determined the problem is the HCl form of our compound is converting aniline into it's salt form. I get normal recovery when spiking into the free base form. I'm searching for options.

Obviously option one is to test the free base form, but is there another way to eliminate the HCl (with the least effort. It can't be a 10 step derivatization)? thx

By adding a base that is stronger than aniline, which is pretty weak as a base. Ammonia or any hydroxide will do.
