This is probably a dumb question, but is it an easy no-brainer swap to switch over the top of an Agilent 5890 series II NPD detector with similar FID top to "make" it an FID detector? The 5890 series II NPD sure looks like a Agilent 5890A FID, and my book lists the jets and lower portions the same, and the detector gas flows are already there. Thanks.

I am not sure on the Agilent but we just 'upgraded' our Shimadzu FID to an NPD.. the NPD Bead Unit was added to our existing FID set-up. If the Agilent is at all simular, you should have no problem backing off...

Npd is only a modified FID.
The Jet,collector, and other parts are similar.
If you have the top of an fid try to install it,that should works.
