To see what the influence of water is on a katalysator we are feeding water to it, together with a few other components. The amount of water is analysed with a TCD and a Hayesep Q column of 2 meters. The tail of the water peak is overlapping the next peak propylene. Does somebody has experience with wateranalyses and knows how to solve this problem? Longer colum...?

Try a faster flow rate and a lower temperature or
Slower flow rate and a higher temperature or
Lower the sample injection volume or
Try glass rather than metal column or
Review hardware configuration to minimize dead volume and bare metal exposed in your system or
Try Porapak or Hayesep R support or 3% CWax on Chromosorb 101

We are doing determination of the content of water in silicons for at least 3 years !
At the beginning we had a similar problem with the tailing of the peak !
Now we use another column: CP-Volamin (60 m - 0,32 mm I.D.) and the water-peak is without any tailing !!!
