I have an old HP 5890 GC that recently short circuited due to an exposed wire from the block heating wires coming in contact with the metal base that surrounds it. There was a big spark and then all the electronics shut down.

I managed to figure out that it blew a fuse on the power board in the back of the GC. After changing the fuse, the system boots back up again, but the solenoid is no longer ticking, which means the detector isn't working.

Does anyone have any advice on how to diagnose/repair this issue?

As far as I can tell, it could be something wrong with the solenoid itself, or the circuit board that it plugs into. The circuit board it plugs into visually looks fine if you pull it out (no burnt resistors or anything like that), but beyond that, I'm not sure how to narrow down where the problem could be. I can probably buy replacement parts, but need to know where the problem is first.

Any suggestions?
