Hello all, I have one of those annoying little problems that's probably really easy to fix but is just outside my area of expertise - hopefully someone can help:

We have a Varian 3800 GC with Autosampler attached via ethernet/crossover cable to a Windows 98 PC running the Star Workstation software. This GC was left collecting dust for at least 3 years, maybe as many as 5 (!) and we've been carrying out some mechanical necromancy, and the GC is revived and apparently running fine (equilibrates and stabilizes and goes through the full injection cycle) but just won't connect with the software on the PC. The Star Software shows the error "Boot TP server is waiting for request" and pinging the IP address the machine should have according to the manual gives no response.

To get the machine running again we had to replace the battery which presumably wiped its permanent settings. So does anyone know how to get these two talking again? Is there a way to find out what IP address the GC thinks it has?

Many thanks in advance.
