We are using a old 5890 series II GC, and it is reading an oven temperature of 822C regardless of what the temperature is in the oven. I'm guessing it is a bad thermocouple, but I can't find any information on it. I traced it back to the main board and it plugs into the upper right corner of the main board.

Does anyone know where I can get a thermocouple, or can i just use a type K and splice it in?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Pie.
As mentioned other posters - that is the right sensor:

This is for injector/detector https://www.restek.com/catalog/view/4021
Isn't that the injector block heater and sensor?

I've replaced those all those sensors; pretty straightforward.
The second link is the correct one for the oven.

The trick to removing the old sensor from the plug at the main board is to use the tip of an autosampler syringe to push in the little clip that holds the square gold connector in the plastic plug, then they will slide right out. The new one should slide in and click into place, just make sure the little clip is facing outward to the hole in the side of the plug, once in deep enough it will lock into place.

The tough part may be getting the inside of the oven apart, the sensor is attached to the back panel of the oven, the four screws that hold it in can be almost welded to the fittings if the oven was used at very high temperatures.
The past is there to guide us into the future, not to dwell in.
