Does anyone have experience using a hydrofluoroether such as Novec from 3M as an extraction solvent for GC-MS applications? A common procedure in our lab is the extraction fragrances from personal care products (shampoos body washes) using isopentane. It was recommended that I try Novec fluids from 3M as the solvent is not flammable. If anyone has used this material for a similar application your input would be appreciated.

I vaguely recall that using fluorocarbon solvents with an FID generates hydrogen fluoride - which is nasty corrosive stuff to say the least of it.
