Hi,

Can anyone give advice for column starting test and periodic retest specification?
Differences per cents from manufacturers given data of symmetry, tailing, plates ect.
If a column and system passed system suitability tests, considered fine at our company.
Till now we think the same.
But it is not correct. If in manufacturer certificate theoretical plates is 20k, and Your test result ir 2.5k, it is acceptable from general system suit. requirements but not from logic side.

For example Agilent Zorbax Rx-C8 column Performance report give these numbers:
Test-
Theoretical plates - 24307
Selectivity - 1.38
USP tailing factor - 1.06

Specifications-
Th. pl. MIN - 16000
Sel. range - 1.32-1.42
Tailing range - 0.98 - 1.25
I have never bothered to re-test the column specifications. Like CPG, we run SSTs to monitor the column & system performance.

Keep in mind plate count, tailing, ... do not depend on the analytical column only. The manufacturer will bring this up if you decide to confront them with your results that differ from the certificate.
