Hi,

I am looking for any ideas that could explain why is mobile phase containing methanol better in resolution of enantiomers than ethanol or any other organic solvents.

Thaks, M.
I would guess the 2 pairs of electrons on the Oxygen have something to do with this. But Oxygen also comprises Ethanol, Propanol, Butanol...

Actually, I would not expect that to be generally true, or are you talking about a specific case?

Ethanol is one of the best, but many other alcohols (esp MeOH) are used by the chiral experts to resolve racemates apart. This is well documented for the sugar phases. You can read a short presentation from the 1990's at this link. https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... _AD_Column
