A Method for Food, Supplements and Animal Feeds using High Performance Anion Exchange Chromatography with Pulsed Amperometric Detection

When: 28 June, 2017
Start Time: 08.00 PDT / 11.00 EDT / 16.00 BST / 17.00 CEST
Presenter: David Ellingson (Senior Research Chemist, Covance Food Solutions)

Sugar profile analysis is not a new topic in the field of analytical chemistry. It has been around for many years and has been accomplished within many different sample matrices with varying instrumentation and methodology. The most popular techniques involve liquid chromatography using aminopropyl columns or size exclusion/ligand exchange columns to separate followed by refractive index detection. Sugars don’t have a chromophore and thus other techniques such as gas chromatography or UV/VIS spectrophotometry need to directly or indirectly derivatize, respectively.

High performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) has also been in use for some time now and is becoming more common in laboratories for sugar profile analysis due to the benefits it provides in comparison to the traditional methodologies. However, compendial methods have not kept up with current trends in this field. An updated compendial method for sugar profile analysis is needed for the areas of food and pet and animal feeds. The benefits of HPAEC-PAD will be discussed along with a method that intends to meet these needs.

By attending this webinar you will learn...
All about HPAEC-PAD and its benefits
Method development to meet the requirement for a compendial method in Food and Pet/Animal Feeds
About the techniques and steps within the method and why they’re used
