Hello,
how much retention time variation (% RSD for 5 of 6 replicate injections) is acceptable?

Thank you!
We developed and validated our own procedures for cGMP actives in consumer products.

Our level for %RSD of peak retention times was "not greater than 2.0%"
It depends on the task and on the value of RT.
X % of 1 min is 0.01*X min and X % of 100 min is X min. When RT variations exeed approximately the FWHM of the peak, the confidence of the compound identification based on RT can always be questioned.

No generalized answer can be provided. The answer is entirely dependent on the specific HPLC method used. No two methods are the same so what might be acceptable for one, may not be for another. The quality of the method and the data generated will spell out the real world RSD. The data obtained determines the answer for the specific method.
