We have two Sciex 6500+ systems in our lab. One of them had a failure of one of the oil pumps recently (Agilent MS40+). The replacement pump by Sciex is more than twice the price of the same pump if purchased directly from Agilent. If I understand the Agilent salesperson correctly, this is due to a control module which reports temperature and speed of the pump back to the Analyst Software.
FOrtunately, we were still on support contract and the replacement was covered by this, but my boss asked, why we don't replace the oil pumps by dry pumps. We have dry pumps for our two Xevo systems: They are less noiy, produce less heat and consume less energy.
Does anyone here use dry pumps for Sciex systems? If yes: Which model? And will there be problems with the software (Analyst 1.7), or will the missing pump information just be ignored?
Thanks for sharing your experience,
Jörg
