Just a thought - this year is the 40th anniversary of Chromatography in Space

Not sure about Mars missions but for the comet mission MS should not even need a vacuum source to draw power. Lunar missions could have GC/MS experiments also without need for vacuum pumps, just open the end to the vacuum of space, probably better than any pumping system you could get here on Earth.
The past is there to guide us into the future, not to dwell in.
