PA1 backflushing...can column be saved?

Hi,

So we run a PA1 column with water elution (1.1ml min) for sugars with post-column addition (0.3ml/min) of 300mM NaOH for electrochemical detection. Unfortunately the column pump stopped and for ~2 hours the post column pump kept going meaning that the column was backflushed. The peaks are now much less sharp and I can not resolve some sugars. Is there any way to get the column performance back? I have tried NaOH and NaOAc.

This is something that has happened before and is an expensive problem as I have had to throw the column away and buy another one. Is there any way in the software (Chromeleon 6.8) to get the post-column pump to turn off if the column pump stops?

Thanks

Dan
As a last resort, maybe you could try to condition the column with 1 M Methanesulfonic acid (MSA) according to the instructions in its manual http://www.dionex.com/en-us/webdocs/115 ... 547-01.pdf). Maybe this could help.
Regarding the post-column pump, we do not have such a configuration in our system, but I would check the pump pressure limits and/or the method's script.

Hope you save your column

KR,
Chrrysa
