Hey,

I want to mix my sample of oil (Hexane & Decane) and Water to form a homogeneous mixture.

Acetone or Iso-propanol, which is better?
Welcome to the forum.

Acetone probably, but if you have a very low fraction of either component it might make the mixture oily or wet enough to still separate. If you use enough of either solvent it will mix.

In the time it took you to post and wait for a reply you could have done the experiment.

Haha ... off course. I needed a second opinion.

Thanks for the response tho
Hello.

iPrOH seems to be better choice because of ultimate mixing properties.

Hello Dap,

iPrOH - Isopropyl alcohol isn't this the same as Iso-propanol.

I havent used this yet, but i might just try it out.

Thanks

Thanks Peter,

From my Lab experience i noticed I needed more acetone to achieve a homogeneous mixture than isopropanol, that was why i asked the initial question.
